About
The DISCOWER project aims to create a corpus facilitating the discovery and study of abstract constructions in academic English as a lingua franca.
The project was financed by a grant for interdisciplinary research teams ('Inter Disciplinas Excellentia') from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (2021-2024). The research team was led by dr hab. Ariadna Strugielska, prof. UMK and comprised the following team members: dr Dorota Guttfeld, dr Dorota Watkowska, and dr Daria Różycka (in 2021).
DISCOWER: a discipline-oriented construction-based corpus of written English as a lingua franca encompasses 2136 abstracts in law, linguistics and literary studies in three strata: abstract texts, basic abstracts and elaborated abstracts (see Constructions for details).
The abstract texts are documented primarily through .txt files while basic and elaborated abstracts primarily through a database that records their attributes. The browser allows the user to search and filter abstract exemplars by data values, and to download the .txt files. You can also download the .txt files directly, in which case the data should also be downloaded as a spreadsheet.
